Clinical Research Trials

At GI Specialists of Georgia, we are committed to researching new and improved ways of treating gastrointestinal and liver diseases. We have on staff a research team that includes physicians, nurse practitioners and a certified clinical research coordinator who participate in clinical research trials.

What is a clinical research trial?

Clinical research trials are studies that evaluate how well a new medical treatment performs by testing it on a select group of patients. Clinical trials are conducted according to a protocol that describes the types of patients who may enter the study, the schedules of tests and procedures, drugs, dosages, the length of the study and how the outcomes will be measured. Each person who participates in the study must agree to the rules set out by the protocol. All our studies are performed under the guidelines of the FDA’s Code of Federal Regulations and ICH Good Clinical Practice Standards.

Why participate in a clinical research trial?

Participating in a clinical research trial offers many benefits, including access to new research treatments before they are widely available, expert medical care and the opportunity to contribute to medical research. However, clinical research trials also carry risks. If you choose to participate in a clinical research trial, your physician will inform you of any potential complications before asking you to sign a consent form.
