GI Procedures Available in Vinings/Windy Hill, GA
We are equipped to handle the most complex of gastrointestinal conditions. Cancer screening is one of the most important things we do. Colon cancer is diagnosed in more than 130,000 people in the U.S. each year, and it is very treatable if caught early or before benign polyps turn cancerous.
Our organization is also focused on raising awareness of the genetic, age, race, and health-related risk factors. Anyone with a family history of the disease, who lives a sedentary lifestyle, who smokes, or who lives with obesity or diabetes is at a higher risk for colon cancer as well.
Our Vinings/Windy Hill locations also provides a full spectrum of other services to address colon problems and more. These include:
- Colon cancer screening
- General GI endoscopic procedures and testing
- Hemorrhoidal branding
- Advanced GI procedures available
Fibroscan
FibroScan, is a non-invasive test that helps evaluate and show fibrosis or fatty deposits in the liver. It is also known as Transient elastography.
Upper Endoscopy (EGD)
A camera and light attached to a thin scope are used to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. The procedure is useful in diagnosing the causes of heartburn, nausea and vomiting, abdominal/chest pain, trouble swallowing, and bleeding.
An upper GI endoscopy is also more effective than imaging techniques such as x-rays in finding ulcers, inflammation, and tumors. Our Vinings/Windy Hill, GA physicians can also remove polyps and foreign objects, treat narrowing of the esophagus, and address bleeding.
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopa Pancreatogram (ERCP)
This enables a gastroenterologist to examine the ducts of the pancreas and liver. An endoscope is passed through the esophagus to the stomach and small intestine, where a separate tube is extended from the duodenum to the ducts, where a dye is injected. Physicians can then view the area with x-rays.
In addition, GI Specialists of Georgia offers these procedures in Vinings/Windy Hill:
- Esophageal Manometry
- Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
- Capsule Endoscopy
Bravo Testing
The Bravo pH Monitor is a 48-hour test in which a device is placed in the esophagus endoscopically. Using a catheter while the patient is sedated, the physician attaches a capsule to the esophageal lining. The patient can then eat normally and stick to the same routine as usual. Measuring acidity levels, a capsule endoscopy can determine if one has acid reflux or if medication to manage the condition is working.
Hemorrhoidal Banding
An alternative to surgery in Vinings/Windy Hill, this procedure effectively eradicates hemorrhoids and is painless. It does not require sedation. The device is typically used over three treatments, spaced at least 10 days apart.
Colonoscopy
The inside of the large intestine is viewed using this endoscopic procedure to screen for colon cancer and investigate the causes of pain, bleeding, anemia, and changes in bowel habits. A small flexible colonoscope is inserted into the rectum, while the patient is sedated. Physicians can also remove polyps, correct bleeding lesions, and perform biopsies during the procedure.
